A Visit to Städel

Saturday we started our day by taking a walk along the river to the Städel Museum, Frankfurt's largest art museum.  In the three weeks since we've arrived, we've been watching as the trees change colors and the season transforms into full-blown fall.

Street musicians are a common sight, but instead of your standard guitar strummer or garbage can drummer, we get the accordion and the upright base!

At the Städel Museum we saw a number of masterworks, but this was the first time I had ever seen empty frames.  Several of the pieces had been taken down for renovations, and instead of closing that section of the museum, they left it opened with naked frames hanging for museum guests to admire.

Fritz is a big fan of Henri Matisse.

I have found that the architecture of art museums is often just as worthy of appreciation as the art that the building houses.

No visit to an art museums is complete without a double exposure.

  2. What if a museum did an exhibition about modern art done in modern art museums. Would the world implode? I love doing photos in modern art museums. you should do a whole series of selfie double exposures. you sure have a knack for them.
