Since Fritz's class takes a break on the weekends, we decided to explore Frankfurt a bit. We started off with a walk down Zeil.
This street, from what I can tell, never really takes a break, but on the weekend there was added entertainment including accordion players, clowns, food markets, and stilt walkers!
Some impressive architecture can be found in the center of Zeil.
Oh! And Frankfurt LOVES bikes! There are bike lanes EVERYWHERE! The sidewalks are actually divided and color coded so walkers can stay in their lane while bikers buzz by in theirs.
Of course a mid-day coffee is a great way to maintain our energy level for the next trek across the city where we can preview the location of our future home.
YES!! That's right!! We found a place to live!! We move in on Monday. We aren't going to be homeless! After searching for over a month with no luck at all, Mikko (our wonderful AirBnB host) connected us to a guy, who connected us to a guy, who had a 2-room apartment on the top floor of a building close to river and main train station. I guess we won't be needing that cardboard box I found after all. Recycling!
Footbridge crossing the Main (that's the river).
People have attached hundreds of locks along the bridge. I found a good one here. We love our family too!
On the bridge with the city in the background.
I found a guitar!!! At a flea market along the Main I bargained for a classical guitar. 35 Euros later, I'm rocking the city!
We ended the day back on Zeil with some bratwurst and apfel wein (apple wine). The brats were delicious. The apfel wein... eh... let's just say we had to try it at least once. It's the traditional beverage of Frankfurt. A nice way to describe it would be to say it tastes a bit like a dry cider. I don't think I'll try it again.
This is the bustling market with food vendors (primarily selling sausage and various meets) and beer and wine stands. People packed in to eat, drink and be merry on a Saturday afternoon!
That building is amazing. Sounds like you had a great day! Love the guitar!
